Mt Coot-tha Quarry History of Significant Events - 2018

2018
30th January
David Hassall receives a reply from LM Quirk which does not even try to answer the questions which we asked.

9th February
Philip Best conducts private home Blast Vibration Monitoring number 2. The results of this indicates much stronger vibration than what is measured outside on the ground by the Quarry Vibration monitoring.

16th February
Philip Best receives details of the 1.6 metre diameter water grid pipeline which passes through the Botanic Gardens only 100m from the resource processing & basting zone plus 350m from an existing blast face.
Local residents are concerned that if the pipeline has been or becomes damaged by blast vibrations, then the repair process will devastate the area and uproot botanic gardens trees and flora.
The location of this pipe is now marked on our KRA-42 diagram which contains our other data.

2nd March
Philip Best conducts Blast Vibration Monitoring number 3 on a home. The results of this indicates much stronger vibration than what is measured outside on the ground by the Quarry Vibration monitoring.

15th March
David Hassall and Philip Best meet with Michael Berkman and Jonathon Sri at the Maiwar electorate office to discuss the Mt Coot-tha Quarry and our report.
It was decided that a new report be created which does not contain the same committee proposal as the previus one did.

23rd March
Philip Best conducts Blast Vibration Monitoring number 4 on a home. The results of this again indicates much stronger vibration than what is measured outside on the ground by the Quarry Vibration monitoring.

25th March
Philip Best contacts a Statistical Consuntalt asking them to analyse our Blast Vibration Data spreadsheet,
The following results were obtained for Mt Coot-tha Rd (MCR), Sussex St (SST) and Richer St (RST) for after blast number 600:
Mean value for MCR/RST = 3.69 times stronger.   MCR/SST = 2.66 times stronger.
Median value for MCR/RST = 3.63 times stronger.   MCR/SST = 2.69 times stronger.
The question remains: Why (for 600 blasts until Nov-2011), did the BCC only do permanent blast monitoring at more distant locations, where the vibration levels are much less.
Clearly the blast vibration reporting to the Qld Government was misrepresented for 600 blasts, because they did not do permanent monitoring at 159MCR,
Permanent monitoring at the unused address of 159 Mt Coot-tha Rd, by the BCC, only began after strong protests from the local residents.

March-April-May-June
Philip Best and other residents continue to conduct a total of 10 Blast Vibration Monitorings on their private homes.
The results of this are consistent with earlier private home blast vibration measurements which indicates a 2.5 times stronger vibration than what is measured outside on the ground and reported to DES by the MCQ Vibration monitoring.
