Mt Coot-tha Quarry History of Significant Events - 2012-2013




2012
The Legacy Way construction began in April 2011. This project continued to emit loud noise both day and night throughout 2012. This was in addition to the normal quarry Blasting.

27th February
DERM (now EHP and then DES) Agrees to establish a permanent monitoring at the unused address 159 Mt Coot-tha Rd (159MCR).
A concrete block style permanent monitoring point was then established.
Approximately 2 years later we find that the Heilig technician had been ordered by the quarry manager to not use the concrete block, and only put a spike in the ground.

17th June
Philip Best reports overall blast strength reduction to the Local Residents Group that since the new MCR permanent monitor was established.


2013

5th May
Residents Succeed in getting "Notice of Blast" email sent to John Higgins each week, so that John can forward them to all his quarry affected email recipients.

4th June
Blast Vibration Damage reported to Quarry Manager and EHP from the quarry blast on the 14th May 2013.

12th June
Philip Best creates ground vibration submission for the 2013 draft City Plan.

19th July
Philip Best creates Mt Coot-tha City Plan Submission.

12th August
Philip Best speaks with Lord Mayor on ABC 612 Radio about the quarry Blasting problems.

6th September
LM Quirk replies to Philip Best regarding the content of our talk on ABC 612 Radio about the quarry Blasting problems.

19th September
Philip Best asks EHP again for the Quarry to share monitoring information with the residents.
Previous to this we had no idea at all what the actual blast vibration levels were.

19th September
Philip Best contacts DERM regarding making the monitoring information available to residents.

23rd September
EHP Minister replies to our concerns regarding the quarry Blasting levels.

25th September
The Quarry does a blast which causes a huge dust storm accross Scenic Drive that cars were uable to drive through, hence we created a complaint issue.

7th October
The One and Only Meeting between the Residents and Quarry Staff is scheduled for 14th October 2013.

17th October
Philip Best records the decibel noise level recorded inside a home when a strong blast is done.

7th November
The residents meeting now has a new date an agenda, it is on the 7th November 2013.
Since then we have tried several times to have a second residents meeting, however each time our email is ignored.

19th November
Philip Best applied for the first of several RTI requests for Blast Vibration Data

7th December
Philip Best detects serious flaws in the Australian Standard AS2187 Appendix J (Blast monitoring), and writes the first of many letters, seeking a more balanced approach.rite the first of many... to be continued
