Mt Coot-tha Quarry History of Significant Events - 2015
2015 The Legacy Way construction began in April 2011. This project continued to emit loud noise both day and night until June 2015 when it was opened to traffic. This was in addition to the normal quarry Blasting.
5th May
Quarry lets rip with an extremely strong blast which shatters one of our patio balustrade glass panels.
Pieces of glass were spread over a 5m radius which took considerable time to clean-up.
Three glass panels had to be replaced before the area could be declared safe again.
Following on from Yesterdays very strong blast, we inspect our ground floor slab to find extremely long and 1mm wide
cracks have increased in size.
Note that concrete shrinkage cracks of 1mm every 6 metres are common, but these cracks exceed those that would
be caused by concrete shrinkage.
Further inspections at later dates have revealed increasing crack lengths and widths.
A subsequent inspection by a RPEQ mechanical engineer advised that the cracks appear to be formed in an unusual
pattern, which could be due to the strong vibrations.
The Council let rip with an extremely strong quarry blast which had all our tradesmen thinking it was an earthquake.
A complaint was lodged regarding this with EHP and the Quarry Manager.
LM Quirk replies to our previous complaint email letters.
He claims that each blast is independantly monitored and assessed by Heilig is not true. All Heilig does is place
a transducer where and how the quarry manager says.
